Taking Clinical Trial Tokenization to Market

Sia supported a leading global CRO in scaling its Clinical Trial Tokenization offering by defining its market positioning, aligning stakeholders and formalizing delivery processes, enabling expansion into new territories.

Context

Clinical trials generate rich data, and combining it with real-world data, such as healthcare records, can unlock deeper evidence on how a treatment performs. The challenge is privacy. Tokenization replaces private patient information with an encrypted token that cannot be reverse-engineered to reveal the patient. The token then acts as a bridge that links a participant's trial data with other data sources without exposing identity.

The approach raises organizational questions as much as technical ones. Compliance, IT and clinical operations teams must be convinced to adopt it, the risk of re-identification must be managed, and the service must be positioned clearly in the market. A leading global contract research organization (CRO) set out to become an industry leader in Clinical Trial Tokenization (CTT) and to scale the offer across territories.

Client Challenge

The organization's ambition was to be the industry leader in CTT. To make this a reality, several requirements had to be delivered:

  • Clarity on the market opportunity for its CTT offer and how best to position its specific CTT capabilities.
  • Alignment across several internal stakeholders, including IT, legal and data privacy, on how CTT should be marketed and sold.
  • Agreed and documented process documentation and procedures, fit for purpose and efficient, describing how CTT operated and delivered services to customers, to ensure flawless service.

What Sia Did

The work comprised several project extensions, covering:

  • Market opportunity and positioning: insights to clarify the market opportunity and promote the organization's specific CTT capabilities.
  • Stakeholder alignment: collaboration across IT, legal, data privacy and business teams on how CTT should be marketed and sold.
  • Processes and documentation: procedures documenting how CTT operated and delivered services to customers.
  • Strategy, roadmap, implementation and expansion: strategy and roadmap development, implementation, and expansion into new territories.

Results & Outlook

The engagement gave the organization a clear positioning for its CTT offer, aligned internal stakeholders on how it would be marketed and sold, documented delivery procedures, and a strategy and roadmap to expand the service into new territories.

By combining life sciences expertise, an understanding of data privacy and a practical approach to alignment and delivery, Sia helps healthcare organizations turn sensitive data into trusted services.
